A fantastic day for
such a significant event!
The LS-MVPA had a super turnout for this important and
patriotic event. We counted 12 club vehicles participating
this year. They included John S and his M35A2, Danny and his
M151/M416, me and my M38A1, Fred F and Herb T with their GPW's,
Tim W, Jeff McD, Toby C with their MB's, Barry F with his WWII 1
1/2 ton, Fred H and Glen V with their CJ2A's and Claude with his
WWII Dodge Ambulance. Also in attendance were Bill B, and
George O.
The group met at the TxDot parking lot about 7am to a cool
morning. About 7:30, we all headed to the staging area on
the Congress Ave. Bridge where we were assigned #40 and
temporarily placed. A half hour or so later, we were moved
to our final staging position and waited for the parade to begin.
During the down-time, several members walked around and viewed the
other entrants including the Del Valley marching band which
happens to be the longest running High School band to lead the
parade. Also included were various VFW posts, the Corvette
club and a multitude of other organizations. KrispyKreme
doughnuts were also provided for entrants.
About 9:20am the parade started. There was a good crowd
on both sides of Congress Ave for the duration of the parade
route. As we neared the announcer, he kept taking and
talking as our group was stretched out for over 1 full city block.
Upon arrival at the Capitol, we made the turn and headed back to
the TxDot parking lot for a group picture and some club
announcements.
After the pictures and announcements, the group split up and
everyone headed separate ways. Some returned for festivities
later in the day as well. This was an excellent event for
our club in addition to presenting our activities and vehicles to
the community.
