Fantastic Show! Hats off to the organizers for this
event...
After so many weeks of rain, the sun gods finally decided it was time
to play. With an early morning fog, John K, myself, Herb T and
Barry F made their way to the San Marcos airport for the Commerative Air
Force (or the Air Force formally known as the Confederacy) for their 1-day
air show and dinner dance. John brought his MB, Herb his GPW, and I brought his M38A1. All four
of us were dressed in period
correct uniforms as well.
About 8:00am, the spectators began arriving. As the fog burned
off, sunshine obliterated the tarmac and grassy area where we had set up
our vehicle display. About noon, the planes started flying following
their normal routine of acrobatic planes, then ToraToraTora kicked off the
show. The basic trainers went up followed by the advanced trainers
and the bombers. Some great aircraft were present including the
fresh P39 Aerocobra, a P51, P40 and B25 bomber. After the show, the
B2 flying wing made several passes followed by an F16 demonstration.
The day was warm with temps in the 80's. There were many
spectators who stopped by the vehicle display as well. About 5pm,
the show was winding down and Herb and I headed to the tarmac area to
snap some shots of their vehicles with the period correct aircraft.
After the pictures, everyone loaded up and headed home. Again,
hats off to the CAF for this great little 1 day show! |
