Event: |
Texas Independence Day Parade |
Date: |
02-Mar-01 |
Location: |
Austin, TX |
Description: |
This years parade was along the same route as previous years
and similar to the Veterans Day Parade. Staging on the Congress Ave
bridge we had the following members and vehicles: Scott S. brought
his '53 M38A1, John K. brought his '45 MB, Barry F. brought his Desert
Storm Buggy and Jeff M. brought his '42 MB. Fellow member Tim W.
also rode with Jeff. Everyone was dressed in period correct uniforms
for this event on a dreary Friday morning. Roger Beasley was handing out
Texas Flags (with their advertising no less) to everyone which added to
the festivities. The day started without moisture but as the parade
began (we were #36) the mist began to pick-up. The parade route was
up Congress Ave and there were a LOT of people lining the street on both
sides for such a damp event. We received many 'thumbs-up' from the
spectators on this one!
After we hit the Capital, we headed back down Colorado to 6th where we
all went our different ways. Overall, this is a great event, we had
good participation, there is ample parking for trailers or tow vehicles
and the organization appears to be getting a bit better with each
one! Look for this one next year on the schedule as a 'must-do'. |
