While attending the UT/A&M football game, a gentleman
approached me on taking pictures of my jeep. He is an author of
many books on jeeps and was in the process of publishing yet
another. He was going to focus this book on the civilian jeeps and
their military counterparts.
As a result of that conversation, I was very willing to
participate. My jeep, the M38A1 is the predecessor of the CJ-5
that had a production run of many many years. Steve asked if I
knew anyone with clean CJ2A's and CJ5's. I pointed him to a fellow
club member for the 2A's and I called a friend of mine with a clean CJ5.
Don, the CJ5's owner has a 1979 Silver Anniversary CJ5 that is about
95% stock. It's had a different exhaust system put on and the
previous owner had mounted a radio speaker in the dash in addition to
cutting a hole in the tailgate to mount a cb antenna mount. Other
than these items, it's about as clean and original as they come.
We all met at Camp Mabry on a cool January day for the shoot.
Many pictures were taken and the book is scheduled for publishing later
in 2001. |
