The annual Kars for Kids car show was yet another
success. With beautiful weather, a tremendous number of car clubs
brought their pride and joys. There were the Model T clubs, the
Corvette and Mustang/Cobra/Shelby clubs, the fire trucks, BMW cars,
Oldsmobile, Buick, Cadillac, Pontiac and Chevrolet clubs. Even race
cars and model RC cars. And the Lone Star MVPA!
I drove my '53 M38A1 to the local Sonic Drive-in and met another club
member who drove a civilian hummer on-loan from his daughters company Lumatec
Inc. Another club member showed up with his "Desert
Storm" buggy and yet another just showed up for the festivities.
All entrants received a 'goodie' bag with lots of neat little
'stuff'. There was a silent auction with a variety of items up for
sale. And a real auction of items later in the afternoon. The
total amount raised for a children's home was $18,554.
Overall, there appeared to be significantly more people and vehicles
then in previous years. The band was not obnoxious this year.
In addition, several people inquired about our club activities, meetings
etc. We may have solicited a few new members as a result! |
