Again, one of the shortest if not the
shortest parades we attend annually.
Danny trailered his M151A2/M416 combo to the Albertsons parking
lot at the "Y" in Oak Hill and arrived about
7:20am. Scott S had previously secured permission for us to
park there with trailers etc. Scott S drove his '53 M38A1
and met Danny about 7:15am. After waiting until the
predetermined 7:45am cut-off and nobody else showing, Danny and
Scott headed out Hwy 71 to Camp Ben McCullough road. Driving
out the 17 or so miles was very pleasant, especially when passing
the Salt Lick BBQ in Driftwood. What an aroma that place
puts off!
They arrived at the intersection of 1826 and Hwy 150 in
Driftwood and waited for the others to show up. John K
arrived with his daughter Kaley and they were trailering his
MB. A few minutes later, Ronnie W and his wife Beth drove in
from their place in the recently finished GPW.
After a bit of discussion, we were asked to be at the front of
the parade just behind the color guard. We staged behind
them and waited a bit more. Promptly at 9:30, the parade
began and we were off. Plenty of candy was tossed by other
participants and the crowd seems lighter than last year.
At the conclusion of the parade, we turned off into the church
parking lot where we staged for a static display. We then
all watched the balance of the parade and then retreated to the
food and booths for some R&R after such an event!
Long about 11:00am, we all packed up and headed our separate
ways. As always, this is a small event yet allows most of us
a great opportunity to crank out 30 or so miles on the old
mil-vehs. |
