Event: The "Kaiserville Convoy"
Date: 29-Sep-01
Location: Kaiserville, (aka: Danny's place)
Description: What an event!

This convoy has been in the planning stages for several years now.  Dedicated club member and current president Danny Kaiser developed a plan for a convoy of members vehicles and then a gathering at his place in South East Austin for food, beverage and good times afterwards.

Members started arriving at Danny's place about 8:30am on a beautiful crisp Saturday morning.  The vehicles lining up in front of his place resembled an antique military vehicle armory after an hour or so!  Included in the line-up were the following vehicles:

  • WWII Ambulance (Claude V)
  • M38A1 and M416 (Scott S)
  • M151A2 and M416 (Danny K)
  • M38A1 (Lewis S)
  • CJ2A (Glen V)
  • MB (Jeff McD)
  • MB (Tim W)
  • M35A2 (Warren C and wife)
  • M35A2 (Arrowhead member and wife from Dallas)

Also in attendance included members Barry F and his family, Cliff H and his wife, Clay N, my wife Debbie and my dad, Danny's wife Gayle.

Upon arrival, everyone was treated to fresh coffee and donuts.  After milling about and taking pictures, 7 of the vehicles headed out led by Danny in his M151A2.  All the 1/4 ton vehicles went first and were followed by the 2 1/2 tons.  Picking up the rear was me pulling a 20' trailer and tools just in case...

The trip wound it's way through the country and touched into three counties.  At the 20 mile mark, we stopped to check that everything was OK and continued the rest of the trip.  When we arrived back at Kaiserville, we had covered just over 40 miles.  After parking the vehicles and more pictures, the grills were fired up and hotdogs, sausage, tortillas and all the fixings were spread out.  Then Gayle, Danny's wife, brought out the desserts.  Whew...  Between the homemade cobblers, banana pudding or cake, everyone was feeling quite full at that time.

After eating, Danny held an informal meeting about the club and Claude presented some information on the pending Senate and House bills regarding the demil of equipment.  A few members also brought items for sale or trade at the informal "swap area".

Then, as the heat of the day began to creep up on the group, we all departed one by one.  Was it fun - You Bet!  Will there be another?  Based on the response for this - count on it!
